Have you ever been judged as a person by your occupation? At social events, networking and even just in the good old British pub, conversations nearly always hit “So what do you do?” quite early on.

“You’re a Doctor” they reply when once you reveal your medical acumen….”Have a look at this”

“You’re a comedian”…..”tell us a joke”

A natural reaction for sure however I usually only ever receive mild confusion upon saying I am Hosting Consultant. A question that does come up quite often upon explaining is:

“Who do you host with then?”

Which although I do a minimal amount of hosting myself, upon asking my technical peers over plenty of projects who they use, one name is constant.

OVH

Back in my Account Manager days we would hear about OVH mainly for dedicated servers and if the company in question was deliberating between my former employer and OVH, the latter would usually win purely based on price/spec,

With transparent pricing, an ever growing network and some of the cheapest rates on the market (if you know what you are doing) they are definitely more mass market than a specialist outfit, in my opinion, however, for the hundreds of thousands of developers who want effective hosting they have gained a big slice of the market.

Although not a partner, you might want to have a look at some of their unmanaged options if you have the technical skills to pull it off.

After the acquisition of VMWare’s Vcloud they came upon my radar for a few projects and sure we will work together soon.

I would expect aggressive expansion from this point given the number of interested parties and will be watching them to see how their cloud offerings evolve over time.
